Nowadays, some parents argue that primary school students should be taught practical skills such as growing vegetables and raising animals. Although this approach may have certain disadvantages, I strongly believe that the benefits are far more significant in most cases.

On the one hand, many people believe that farm-related subjects are unnecessary for young children and should not be included in the school curriculum. One reason is that parents often expect schools to focus more on academic subjects such as mathematics, literature, science, and foreign languages, in addition to essential soft skills like communication and teamwork. Since primary school lays the foundation for higher levels of education, some people argue that students should devote more time to traditional subjects rather than spending hours learning how to cultivate vegetables or care for animals. Furthermore, parents who want their children to pursue modern and academically oriented careers may consider these activities irrelevant to future success. They may fear that exposing children to farming-related work at an early age could distract them from technological or professional ambitions. In their view, such lessons are more closely associated with manual labour and therefore provide little long-term value in an increasingly competitive and digital society.

On the other hand, I strongly support the idea of teaching children how to grow vegetables and keep animals, especially during their early years of development. Primary school students are naturally curious about the world around them, including where their food comes from and how living things grow. Learning how to plant seeds, water crops, and care for animals can therefore become an engaging and meaningful educational experience. These activities also encourage children to spend more time outdoors and develop patience, responsibility, and discipline through hands-on learning. In addition, these lessons can help children develop emotional awareness and a greater appreciation for nature. For example, by taking care of pets or farm animals such as rabbits, dogs, or birds, children may become more compassionate and caring individuals. They can learn the importance of responsibility, empathy, and cooperation rather than focusing solely on academic achievement. Moreover, understanding the effort required to grow food may encourage children to value healthy meals and reduce food waste in their daily lives.

In conclusion, although some people believe that teaching farming-related skills in primary schools may distract children from academic studies, I believe the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. Such lessons not only broaden children’s practical knowledge but also contribute to their emotional and personal development, which are equally important for their future.
