IELTS Writing Task 2 về Thời gian rảnh – Leisure Time

In many countries, young people are expected to devote most of their time to studying, leaving them with few opportunities to relax or pursue personal interests. This situation is mainly caused by intense academic competition and high parental expectations. However, I believe that both schools and families can take practical steps to address this problem.

One major cause is the belief that academic achievement is the key to a successful future. As competition for places at top universities and well-paid jobs becomes increasingly fierce, students often feel that they must maintain high academic standards to avoid falling behind their peers. Consequently, many spend hours attending extra classes, completing assignments and preparing for exams, even after a full day at school. Another contributing factor is parental pressure. Parents naturally want their children to have better opportunities in life, but some place unrealistic expectations on their children, expecting them to achieve excellent grades in almost every subject. As a result, young people may feel guilty about taking a break, believing that their free time should instead be spent on studying.

Several measures could help reduce this pressure. First, schools should adopt a more balanced approach to education by placing greater emphasis on practical skills, creativity and personal development rather than exam results alone. Teachers could also set a reasonable amount of homework so that students have sufficient time to rest and engage in other activities. Second, parents need to understand that academic success is not the only measure of a child’s potential. Instead of constantly comparing their children with others, they should provide emotional support and encourage them to develop their own strengths. For example, allowing teenagers to participate in sports, learn a musical instrument or spend time with friends can help them maintain a healthy work-life balance while developing valuable social skills.

In conclusion, excessive academic pressure stems largely from intense competition and high parental expectations. By reforming educational practices and adopting a more supportive parenting style, schools and families can help young people succeed academically without sacrificing their well-being.
