Introduction
The diagram illustrates the process of producing sugar from sugar cane, showing the various stages from growing the crop to obtaining the final sugar product.
Overview
Overall, the process consists of 7 sequential stages, beginning with the cultivation of sugar cane and ending with the drying and cooling of sugar crystals. Throughout the procedure, the raw material is gradually transformed from solid cane into liquid juice and finally into refined sugar.
Body Paragraph 1 & 2
At the first stage, sugar cane is grown for a period of around 12 to 18 months until it reaches maturity. Once fully grown, the crop is harvested either by machines or manually by workers. Then, the harvested sugar cane is crushed in a mill, where juice is extracted from the plant material.
Following this, the extracted juice is purified by passing it through a limestone filter to remove impurities. The cleaned liquid is subsequently heated in an evaporator, during which water is removed and the juice thickens into syrup. In the next stage, the syrup is spun in a centrifuge to separate sugar crystals from the remaining liquid. Finally, these crystals are dried and cooled, producing the finished sugar ready for use.
