Although excessive gaming can certainly create problems, I believe that the overall advantages of computers outweigh the disadvantages when their use is properly controlled.
Admittedly, the overuse of computers for gaming purposes can negatively affect children in several ways. One major concern is that many youngsters become addicted to online games and spend excessive amounts of time in front of screens. As a result, they may neglect their studies, exercise less frequently, and develop health issues such as obesity, poor eyesight, and sleep disorders. Another issue is that some video games contain violent content, which may influence children’s behaviour and make them more aggressive or socially withdrawn. If parents fail to monitor screen time effectively, these negative impacts can become increasingly serious.
Nevertheless, the benefits that computers offer to children are far more significant. To begin with, computers have revolutionised the way students learn by providing instant access to a vast range of educational resources. For example, children can now attend online classes, conduct research efficiently, and use interactive applications to strengthen their understanding of different subjects. In addition, computers equip young people with essential digital skills that are becoming increasingly valuable in the modern workforce. Since technology plays a central role in almost every profession, early exposure to computers can better prepare children for their future careers. Furthermore, computers can also encourage creativity and independent learning through activities such as coding, graphic design, and content creation.
In conclusion, although spending too much time playing computer games may have harmful effects on children’s health and behaviour, I strongly believe that computers are beneficial overall due to their educational advantages and long-term value in preparing children for the future. The key lies not in limiting access completely, but in ensuring that children use technology responsibly and in moderation.
