IELTS Speaking Part 2 về điểm trung bình tích luỹ GPA
I’d like to talk about the way my university calculates students’ cumulative GPA, which stands for Grade Point Average. It is one of the most important evaluation systems because it reflects a student’s academic performance throughout their entire degree program.
Basically, each subject is assigned a certain number of credits depending on its workload and importance. At the end of every semester, students receive grades for each course, and those grades are converted into grade points. The cumulative GPA is then calculated by multiplying the grade points by the corresponding credits, adding them together, and dividing the total by the number of credits completed.
What makes this system quite interesting is that it doesn’t focus on a single examination. Instead, it takes into account a student’s performance over several years. As a result, students are encouraged to maintain a consistent level of effort rather than relying on last-minute cramming before final exams.
As far as students are concerned, opinions are somewhat divided. Many students appreciate the system because it rewards long-term dedication and provides a more comprehensive picture of academic ability. However, others feel stressed because one poor semester can significantly lower their overall GPA, making it difficult to recover later on. Personally, I think this is a relatively fair method of assessment. The main reason is that it evaluates students based on multiple courses and semesters instead of a single test. This reduces the impact of temporary factors such as illness, anxiety, or personal issues. That being said, I believe universities should also place greater emphasis on practical skills and real-world experience, since academic grades alone cannot fully measure a student’s potential.
Overall, I would say that the cumulative GPA system is an effective way to track academic progress, although it should be combined with other forms of assessment to provide a more balanced evaluation of students.
