Those who miss more than 20% of the total lessons without valid reasons may be prohibited from taking the final exam. Such policies encourage students to take their studies more seriously.
Another reason is that this measure helps protect fairness and academic integrity. Students who obey the rules should not be treated the same as those who engage in misconduct. Serious offenses such as cheating in examinations, or repeated disruptive behavior can undermine the learning environment and disadvantage other students. Therefore, preventing offenders from sitting final exams is a reasonable way to uphold educational standards.
Admittedly, this punishment may be too severe for minor mistakes, such as arriving late to class on a few occasions. However, universities can avoid unfairness by applying it only to serious or repeated violations rather than minor breaches of regulations.
