One famous tourist destination that immediately comes to my mind is Ha Long Bay, located in northern Vietnam. It is widely regarded as one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in the country and has been a magnet for both domestic and international visitors.
The bay is renowned for its thousands of limestone islets rising dramatically from waters. Because of its spectacular scenery, it has become a symbol of Vietnamese travel industry. Last year, the bay welcomed over 3.4 million visitors, including more than 2.2 million international tourist, making it one of Vietnam’s most economically valuable tourism assets. I also had the opportunity to visit this destination once, and I absolutely loved the fresh air and picturesque scenery there.
However, in recent years, the area has undergone rapid urban development. Numerous luxury resorts, hotels, entertainment complexes, and expanded cruise ports have been constructed to accommodate the growing influx of visitors. While these projects aim to boost the local economy, they have unfortunately resulted in increased water pollution and construction waste.
Personally, I feel quite conflicted about this situation. On the one hand, infrastructure development is essential for economic growth and improving living standards. On the other hand, excessive construction threatens the ecological balance and undermines the very beauty that makes the place attractive in the first place. If this trend continues unchecked, the long-term environmental consequences could be irreversible. I strongly believe that sustainable development strategies should be implemented to preserve this natural treasure for future generations.
